Free Speech Suffers Worldwide, Not Just In France


While most of us are preoccupied by the tragic events unfolding in Paris over the past few days, it’s being reported by many news outlets that Saudi Arabia blogger Raif Badawi has been sentenced to 1,000 lashes in public for being convicted for “insulting Islam.” 

As the majority of the world focuses on the French acts of terrorism over this past week, we must not limit ourselves to these events alone.  We must also realize that there are major human rights violations happening across the globe in countries that do not allow truly free speech.  Both the French and Saudi Arabian examples are those in which there is a a seemingly “zero tolerance” of freedom of opinion, especially as it pertains to Islam.
